Common questions

How do I keep a quote?

While an episode plays, tap the quote button in the player. Consilience keeps the moment you just heard; choose how long in Settings, under Quotes, Quick Quote Length (30 seconds to a minute and a half). Your quotes are under Quotes, by show and episode.

Where do the words come from?

Your iPhone makes them from the audio around the quote, using Apple's speech recognition on the device or a Whisper speech model that runs on the device. The audio is not sent anywhere. The first time, iOS asks whether Consilience may use Speech Recognition. Words are machine-made, so they can contain mistakes; you can trim a quote and edit its note.

Which languages work?

Apple's on-device speech recognition covers English and other languages, depending on your iPhone. For other languages, including Ukrainian and Russian, the app offers a Whisper speech model that is downloaded once and then works offline.

Where is my data?

On your iPhone only. There is no account, and nothing you do in the app is sent to us. The privacy policy lists every connection the app makes.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

Your iPhone's own backup carries the app's data. You can also save a backup file: Settings, On this phone, Back up to a file. Keep it in Files or iCloud Drive, then restore it on the new iPhone from the same place.

How do I bring my podcasts from another app?

Most podcast apps can export your shows as an OPML file. Save it to Files, then import it into Consilience from Settings, On this phone.

How do I send quotes to Readwise or my notes?

Open a quote, or select several, and choose Export: Markdown for Obsidian or any notes app, CSV, or the share sheet. For Readwise, add your own access token (from readwise.io/access_token) in Settings. Every exported quote includes its show, episode and a link.

A show isn't in Search.

Search uses Apple's podcast directory, so a show that isn't listed there won't appear. Try its exact name, or its publisher's name.

Does Consilience cost anything?

No. Consilience is free to download and use, with no subscription.

How do I delete my data?

Everything is on your iPhone. Settings, About, Delete all my data removes it all; deleting the app does too. Save a backup file first if you may want it again.

How do I get a refund?

Consilience is free today. If you ever buy something in it, Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.

For podcasters

Consilience plays your public feed as you publish it, straight from your host, and never alters or re-hosts your audio. Quotes include your show's name and a link to the episode. If you would like your show hidden from search in Consilience, or would rather words weren't made for it, email podcasters@peripatoss.app from an address shown on your feed or website. We will act on it in the next update.
